A Mother's Grief - Female Macaque Monkey Mourns The Death of Her Child (Photos)

After seeing these images, it is so obvious that grief knows no bounds both in the human and animal world. The heartbreaking images show a female macaque monkey cradling her dead baby in her arms and it was captured by wild-life photographer Andrew Walmsley.

The pictures reveal the female macaque monkey spending days looking after her baby, who died a few weeks after its birth. The grief-stricken mother spent days carrying around the tiny newborn at Tangkoko Nature Reserve and National Park in Sulawesi, Indonesia.

She was seen pressing her child tightly against her chest, before grooming, sniffing and gazing mournfully at it. While tenderly cradling her baby, she also fended off a male macaque who tried to reach out and touch it. She finally let go of the dead baby after some days.
