Pope Francis is Best Dressed Man 2013

Pope Francis has been named the "Best Dressed Man 2013" by Esquire. He was also recently named as Time Magazine's "Person of The Year 2013".

The Pope has largely avoided splendor, and is most commonly seen in a plain white robe and skullcap. He chose the simplest papal ring out of those proposed to him, and forfeited the red leather shoes that are a customary part of the papal dress.

His humility has endeared him to many around the world. Congrats to him.

Saying Goodbye to 2013 And Welcoming 2014

Soon we will be saying goodbye to the year 2013. It's been an amazing year for many, dreams came true, goals were accomplished and miracles did abound. For others it was a painful year, they lost loved ones, they had medical challenges and life threw painful blows at them.

Yet in all things, we must give thanks. It is not about what life presents but about God who controls the future. I am not a big fan of resolutions but I do believe in writing down goals, aspirations, desires, praying and hard work crowned with grace to see those things come to pass.

So here are some tips on how to embrace and welcome the new year.
- Give Thanks for 2013, show appreciation for the gift of life.
- Write out your desires, goals and what you want to see in the new year.

Childless Women Who Got HIV While Seeking For Children

Now after reading these stories, I had mixed feelings. I felt sad for many women out there who were in dire need of a child, then I was also angry at the many things they subjected themselves to in their journey to become a mother. But the truth is, you will never know where the shoe pinches until you wear it yourself.

The Punch newspaper tells the stories of  these women who contracted HIV while desperately seeking to have children and the societal pressure that pushed them into the hands of quacks. The harrowing ordeal some of these women go through include sleeping with spiritualists, drinking concotions, incisions on their bodies. A doctor even tells of how a dead rat was found inside her patient during a pelvic examination.

Mrs. Fola Jegede and her husband tried to get pregnant but it wasn't forthcoming. She then began to seek doctors and herbalists out for help.

Teenage Girl Dies While Attempting an Abortion

This is a must read and I believe as parents there are many lessons to learn when we see these kind of stories. A teenage girl recently died in Ghana, after taking a local portion from a herbalist to terminate her pregnancy. The twist to the story is that she wasn't even pregnant and she ended up losing her life acting hastily when her menses was late.

The 17-year-pupil died was alleged to have missed her menses, and suspecting pregnancy, she sought the assistance of a herbalist who was said to have prepared the potion for her to abort the pregnancy.

The girl who already has a child, reported to school and started complaining of stomach pains.
Back home, she had told her parents that she was having a headache. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors revealed that she had taken a concoction which had destroyed the organs in the stomach. She died  3 hours later.

The forgetful owner left the money behind in a bag when Gerardo dropped him at his hotel. When the doorman at Gamboa's next stop alerted him to the bag, he opened it  and found the huge sum of money. He asked his next passenger to witness that he hadn't taken anything from the money and returned it immediately to his boss.

A once happily married couple are currently exposing their dirty linen to the public. More details have emerged on this story where a young man accused his wife of cutting his penis. Ann Morgan, Reading One Book From every Country In The World

Ann Morgan could not find a book to read in English from the tiny African nation of Sao Tome and Principe. At a loss, she appealed for help on Facebook and Twitter, only to be bombarded with offers from around the world to translate whatever work she chose.

Some volunteers in Europe and the United States finally came to her rescue, translating Olinda Beja's 140-page novel, The Shepherd's House into English. Governor Rotimi Amaechi Goes Spiritual

The Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi seems to be going spiritual these days. He recently said that he fasted and prayed for 10 months before he became the governor; saying that God and not man, installed him as governor.

At the Christmas day service held at Saint Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Port Harcourt, the governor said: "As a government led by me, a government installed by Christ, if anybody tells you he installed me, tell him it is a lie. Tell him that I said I prayed for 10 months and I fasted from 6am to 6pm, calling on Christ to come down and Christ came down mightily and installed me as governor."

"That is why you can see that in the face of human effrontery, I have been able to stand face to face with them and I say I have Christ in me."  He also spoke on the growing insecurity in the state saying the police had failed to do their job.

Missing Child Reunited With Family After 12 Years

I think this story lets parents know that you have to extremely careful when it comes to children. You just can't leave anything to chance, sending them off on errands, leaving them in school after closing hours. You just have to be vigilant, no one would want his or her child missing.

A Kenyan child, Jessica Wanza lost her way from nursery school in 2001 at Kibera slums in Nairobi. On Friday, tears flowed freely when her family was reunited with her for the first time in 12 years. They were all locked in an emotional embrace. What an amazing Christmas gift!

According to Ms Mukiti, Wanza's elder sister, her little sister got lost in 2001 when she was going home from nursery school. She was only 5 years old. Their mother was not at home and had left the responsibility of picking the child from school with her younger brother. My brother got there late and she was nowhere to be found.

This is weird news indeed! Francis Karuri , a Kenyan prisoner cut off his own penis after he discovered that he would not be released from jail before Christmas. The death row inmate chopped off his penis after not being granted a presidential pardon.

He told his fellow prisoners that he would not need the organ anymore, Francis then chopped off his penis, continued his work, before he passed out on the floor in his cell.

Pastor Kumuyi Says Christmas is Idolatrous

Pastor W.F Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church during the church's annual convention, warned his members against celebrating Christmas. He says Christmas is idolatrous and unscriptural. Personally, I think we only end up dividing the church with individual doctrines.

He said, “ We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol. Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the Lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.

When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don’t find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don’t find that in the church either. If you don’t know that before, now you know.”

As 2013 Comes to An End, Be Thankful and Appreciate Others

The year 2013 is gradually winding up, we await the new year with new hopes, new dreams, great zeal and firm faith. Many are currently taking stock of this year, some are wounded by their failures, others have given up completely.

Wait a minute and think of the many little blessings that came your way this year. Think of the peace and serenity that filled your soul. How about the silent battles you won on your knees, new friendships that blossomed, laughter in the midst of that challenge. You may not have achieved all that you aimed for, you may not have hit your targets, or maybe the year seems all like a waste. look up with great hope in your heart.

Take out time and be thankful. Sit and ponder and you will find just one reason to be thankful. Maybe many reasons and as you do, celebrate with a grateful heart. Appreciate your loved ones. Thank them for being there, for sharing in your low moments, for their words, prayers, hugs and counsel. Give gifts of words, time, messages and you will definitely be crowning 2013 with joy.
Please fell free to share those things you are thankful for and how you plan to appreciate your loved ones as 2013 comes to an end. Thank You.

RE: Before It Is Too Late

I wish to formally acknowledge your letter dated December 2, 2013 and other previous correspondence similar to it.

You will recall that all the letters were brought to me by hand. Although both of us discussed some of the issues in those letters, I had not, before now, seen the need for any formal reply since, to me, they contained advice from a former President to a serving President.
