Ice Prince wins BET Awards 2013 for Best International Act Africa

Ice Prince has won the award for ‘Best International Act Africa’ at the 2013 edition of the BET Awards.

The rapper was awarded the coveted prize this evening at the BET Broadcast Centre a few hours before the awards proper kicks off at the Nokia Theatre L.A. live in Los Angeles, California, reports TheNET.

Last year, he lost the award to Wizkid and Sarkodie, but it’s no small feat this year beating former winner and fellow Nigerian Tuface Idibia, Toya Delazy from South Africa, Donald (South Africa), R2Bees (Ghana) and Radio and Weasel (Uganda).

Ice Prince becomes the 4th Nigerian artiste to win the award since Tuface and D’banj jointly won it in 2011 and Wizkid in 2012.


Sisters Shot Dead for Dancing in Rain- Pakistan

2 teenage sisters have been murdered in Pakistan after they were accused of tarnishing their family's name by making a video of themselves dancing in the rain.

The girls, aged 15 and 16, are seen running around in traditional dress with 2 other younger children outside their bungalow in the town of Chilas, in the northern region of Gilgit.

The sisters, named as Noor Basra and Noor Sheza, appear to break into dance and one even flashes a smile at the camera.

Gianluigi Buffon 35 years old, saved 3 Uruguay penalties to inspire Italy to 3rd place in a penalty shootout nightmare.

An entertaining game which ended 2-2 after extra time, saw Italy overcoming Uruguay 5-4 aggregagate after penalty shootout.

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Thompson Oliha, has passed on. The midfielder, who was among the 1994 victorious Super Eagles' squad that won the Nations cup in Tunisia, died today Sunday, June 30 at 4.05 am at the Yusjib industrial medicare hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Confirming his death in Ilorin, Dr. Yusuf Addulraheem said that, Oliha was brought to the hospital at the time when there was nothing he could do to resuscitate him.

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has fixed October 16, 2013 for the commencement of trial in a N120 million copyright suit filed against popular music star, Innocent Idibia, a.k.a. TuFace, his wife, Annie Idibia and their manager, Anthonio Anifite over photographs allegedly taken at the recent traditional wedding of the musician and his wife in Akwa Ibom State.

Abuja based photographer, Emmanuel Okolo, who is the plaintiff in the suit alongside his studio, Papilonmexy filed suit against the defendants. He is asking for six reliefs, two of which include N100 million in general damages and N20million in exemplary damages.

Mandela's Family Sues Grandson over Burial Site

As former South African President, Nelson Mandela, remained in a critical condition in hospital on Friday, a family feud over where the 94-year-old former president should be buried went to the courts.

Mandela’s oldest daughter, Makaziwe, and 15 other family members have pressed a court application to get Mandela’s grandson to return the bodies of three of Mandela’s children to their original graves in the eastern rural village of Qunu, according to the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Tonto Dikeh Risks 15-Year Jail for Hemp Photos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Friday said controversial Nigerian actress, Tonto Dikeh, risks a minimum of 15 years in jail for encouraging the consumption of hemp.

Dikeh had on Friday posted photographs of a wrap of hemp and grains of the weed formed into the letters, ‘Happy birthday POKO.’

She also posted a photograph of herself and added the inscription, ‘Mi smoke ganja mi smoke weed while my hatez smoke ma gossip.’

D’banj Signs N250m ($1.6m) Deal with Etisalat

D’banj, the Kokomaster aka Eja nla has just hit a mouth watering deal with leading telecommunications firm, Etisalat as a “super” brand ambassador.

A cheque of N250m was issued to him by Etisalat, a company that really wants to re-establish itself as a leader in the industry.

The deal was struck recently and D’banj has already shot some commercials for Etisalat being prepared for release.

Donations Pour in for OJB Jezreel


There has been great expectations from the entertainment industry since it was made public that music producer and artist, OJB Jezreel, needs N15million ($ 100000) for a kidney transplant in India.

It is said that OJB produced 'Gbadun You', the 1st track on Iyanya's debut album after he won Project Fame in 2008.

Now Nigerian artistes have begun to pull their weight in cash and this is probably a tip of the iceberg!

Don Jazzy made a 1 million naira donation; Iyanya and his manager, Ubi Franklin gave 1 million naira; the latest is P'Square and Jude 'Engees' Okoye who pulled in with 5 million naira. Others like Rugged Man, Mercy Johnson, Julius Agwu, Funny Bone, Senator (Comedian) have given undisclosed sum.

So far 8 million naira has been raised.

It then took until the 13th penalty for Spain to subdue stubborn Italy, with Leonardo Bonucci firing his effort over the bar. New Manchester City winger Jesus Navas stepped up and sent Spain into Sunday's Final against the hosts, Brazil.

Britain Reconsiders £3,000 Visa Bond

British Prime Minister David Cameron has halted the controversial plan by his country to demand a £3,000 bond from each visa applicant from “high risk countries”.

Under the proposal canvassed by Britain’s Home Secretary, Theresa May, as part of efforts to cut immigration and abuses of the system, 1st time visitors from Nigeria, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Pakistan and India from November will be required to pay the £3,000 visa bond before they would be allowed to enter Britain.

U.S Supreme Court Ruling on Gay Marriage

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal over same-sex marriage on jurisdictional grounds, clearing the way for same-sex marriages in California to resume.

The 5-4 decision avoids, for now, a sweeping conclusion on whether same-sex marriage is a constitutional "equal protection" right that would apply to all states.

There has been wild jubilation in the gay community. However, the Archdioceses of San Francisco, whose recently appointed leader, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, has made headlines for his vocal opposition to gay rights, released a statement: (See below)

Official: Mandela on Life Support

South Africa's ailing peace icon Nelson Mandela has been put on a life-support system following deterioration of his health, 3 weeks after the 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader was hospitalised with a recurring lung infection.

"Mandela is on life support in the Pretoria Heart Clinic where he has been fighting a recurrent lung infection since June 8," an official reported on Wednesday.

As the country remained on edge, Congress of Traditional Leaders' president Phathekile Holomisa said Mandela's critical condition is cause for great concern. If it was up to him, he'd ask the Creator to make a quick decision on the international icon's life, state broadcaster SABC quoted Holomisa as saying.

£345 Million 5-Star Cave Hotel in China

Developers in China are building a 5-star luxury hotel inside an abandoned quarry in the country's Sheshan national resort. The 19-storey hotel will have 380 rooms and its roof will only be 15 metres above the cave opening. The InterContinental Shimao hotel is expected to be finished by 2015 and rooms will start at around £200 a night.

Arsenal Star, Walcott Weds Melanie Slade, Childhood Sweetheart


Arsenal footballer star, Theo Walcott 24, is officially married. He tied the knot with his teenage sweetheart Melanie Slade also 24 in a fairytale castle in Italy, Castello di Vincigliata.

Theo said of his bride: "It's fantastic to be able to finally call Melanie my wife. Now we're excited to see what the future holds for us.

Melanie and Theo met in 2004 in West Quay shopping centre in the UK when she was a schoolgirl and he was playing for Southampton’s youth team. They have been together ever since.
